"We played good soccer in the first half," said head coach Erick Baumann when asked about the Stars' performance on Sunday night. "I felt like we had most of the ball and possession and just didn't finish on our couple of chances. We got a little out of our game in the second half, started to play more direct and lost some of our possession."
Dominican ripped five shots at Elmhurst's John Reglin in the opening 45 minutes, putting two shots on goal with Reglin making one save and an Elmhurst defender clearing another that was on target. The stats evened out in the second half with Dominican getting off six shots while the Bluejays managed four, including a sequence in the 81
st minute that saw Gongora make back-to-back saves seconds apart.
In the extra time, both teams playing their second game in as many days, Dominican managed two shots while Elmhurst got off just one.
"I was very pleased with our guy's effort tonight and the way that they battled out there on the field," said Baumann. "I was not happy with our compete level yesterday but happy with the way the guys responded tonight. This is another step in the direction we want to go."
Dominican, now 1-3-2 on the season, returns to action on Wednesday night, traveling down to Bloomington, Illinois, to take on the Illinois Wesleyan Titans in the Stars' final non-conference tune-up prior to opening Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play next Saturday at Concordia Wisconsin.
