Stars Strike Early In Win Over Eagles

The Dominican University women's soccer team got back in the win Wednesday night, snapping a four-match losing streak, with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Benedictine University Eagles in Lisle.

Kelli Iovino (Arlington Heights, Ill.) bookended the Stars' first half scoring barrage, tallying the game-winner in just the 18th minute of play and scoring the Stars' fourth and final goal a little over ten minutes later in the 29th minute.  In between, Nathalie Mathis (Wauconda, Ill.) and Leah Tednes (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) each found the back of the net.  The score was the first of the year for Mathis while Tednes notched her third goal of the season in the winning effort.

The Stars stuffed the stat sheet the entire 90 minutes, ripping 18 shots and putting 11 on goal while giving up just ten shots to the Eagles and allowing only two on frame, both turned away by junior goalkeeper Sara Stepanovich (Des Plaines, Ill.) who played the first 80 minutes in goal to pick up the win.

The Stars now stand at 4-4-0 on the year and 1-1-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.  Dominican returns home to host the Marian University Sabres for a NACC tilt on Saturday on the Stars' West Campus Field.  Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m.
