Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Robertson, Stars Outshine Edgewood

Tim Robertson's (Chicago, Ill.) three-point play on a put-back in the final seconds lifted the Dominican University men's basketball team to a 68-67 win over the visiting Edgewood College Eagles on Saturday evening in the Igini Sports Forum.  Robertson finished with a game-high 20 points and the freshman is averaging better than 21 points per game over the Stars' last four games.

The Stars erased a ten-point first half deficit, taking a 44-43 lead on a Mike Bobek (Orland Hills, Ill.) fastbreak lay in with 14:37 remaining.  It was the first of nine lead changes in the second half.

After a quick 6-0 run for the Eagles gave Edgewood another five-point lead, Dominican answered moments later as Bobek knocked down a three ahead of a one-handed slam in transition by Josh Mayberry (Canton, Mich.) that evened the score at 51-51 and forced an Edgewood timeout.

After a stop, Mayberry equaled the Stars' largest lead of the game on Dominican's next possession, weaving his way into the paint for a driving lay in.

The Stars and Eagles continued to trade leads over the final nine minutes.

Tal Diekvoss gave the Eagles their final lead of the night as he pulled up from 19-feet and buried a two-point jumper with six seconds on the shot clock and 47 seconds left on the game clock.  The bucket was the lone field goal in the game for Diekvoss and put the Eagles up 67-65.

An Edgewood foul on Dominican's ensuing possession turned off the shot clock with 23 seconds to play.  Coming out a timeout, the Stars ran a down screen for Quinn Pokora who got a look straight on from three that caromed off the front of the rim and the rebound was batted around before falling into the hands of Robertson.  Robertson used one dribble to make his way into the paint where the freshman absorbed contact and finished the basket to even the score with seven seconds to play.  Robertson then calmly knocked down a free throw to put the Stars on top, 68-67.

Edgewood got off a three by Diekvoss and a put-back attempt by Adam Freitag but neither was on the mark as Dominican held on for the win.

Robertson shot 8-for-16 from the field and converted on four-of-six attempts from the foul line.  Mayberry added ten points and pulled down ten rebounds for his second double-double of the season.

Dominican shot 53 percent from the field in the second half to fuel the Stars' comeback.  Ryan Modiest (Joliet, Ill.) was 4-for-4 from the field, scoring nine points in 19 minutes after the break.

Joe Klocek scored 18 points off the bench to pace Edgewood.

The Stars, now 2-17 on the year and 2-12 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC), return to action next Saturday, traveling to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, to take on the Marian University Sabres.  Tipoff is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
