Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Stars Top Perennial NACC Power, Remain Unbeaten In Conference

The Dominican University women's soccer team ran its current winning streak to four matches on Saturday, knocking off the perennial Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) champions, the Aurora University Spartans 2-1 at Vago Field in Aurora, Illinois.

Dominican trailed 1-0 into the 76th minute before scoring a pair of goals 68 seconds apart to top the Spartans for the first time since the sides joined the NACC in 2006.

"This was a great win for our team and the program," commented Dominican's Carlos Carrillo, the Stars' second-year head coach.  "We came out on an even battle in the first half after they took advantage of an opportunity early.  We didn't let down and continued to fight."

"In the second half we came out strong and really took it to them.  We dominated the second 45 and created a number of opportunities.  I could see it was only a matter of time before we got the equalizer; and once we did, we knew the game-winner would follow."

Taylor Adler (Shorewood, Ill.) tallied the game-tying goal, being sent in behind the Aurora backline on a through-ball played by Kelli Iovino (Arlington Heights, Ill.) in the 76th minute.

Moments later, Iovino and Adler flipped the script for the game-winner when Adler slipped a pass through the Spartans' backline where Iovino was able to make a run for a 1v1 with the goalkeeper.  For Iovino, it was her 14th goal of the season and her fifth game-winner, tying her for the NACC lead.

Pamela Ruiz (Dallas, Texas) made one save, as the Stars outshot the Spartans 13-6 and the freshman improved to 7-2-0 on the season in goal for the Stars.

"The fight and desire we showed today was most rewarding to me," continued Carrillo.  "I cannot put into words how proud I am of our team."

The Stars now stand at 8-4 on the season and 6-0-0 in conference with a tilt against the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors scheduled for Wednesday at Dominican's West Campus Field.
