A record-tying performance from
Taylor Adler (Shorewood, Ill.) paced the Stars to a 10-0 win over the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors on Wednesday afternoon at West Campus Field in River Forest. Scoring six goals, with her first on a breakaway in the third minute and her sixth a free kick in the 64
th minute, Adler tied the Dominican University women's soccer program mark for goals in a game set by Mayra Camacho in October 2005.
"Taylor has been really good as of late," said
Carlos Carrillo, the Stars' second-year head coach. "She has been creating more opportunities with her runs, with her first touch. She has been taking players on. She has earned those opportunities and I'm glad she is finishing them."
For Dominican, the game-winner came in the second minute when
Lauren Zuro's (Elmwood Park, Ill.) corner kick service caromed off a Wisconsin Lutheran defender before finding the back of the net. Ninety seconds later, Adler collected a ball out near midfield and used her speed to create a 1v1 with the keeper for her seventh goal of the season.
Sixty minutes later, Adler had her season total up to 12 goals and the Stars up 7-0 on the Warriors.
"It went just as we planned," said Carrillo. "We wanted to come out and be sharp from the beginning and get on the board early and we did."
Alexis Mondragon (Chicago, Ill.),
Valerie Sanchez ( Lombard, Ill.) and
Natalie Suarez (Chicago, Ill.) rounded out the Dominican scoring with goals in the 65
th, 85
th and 90
th minute respectively.
With the win the Stars remain perfect in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) at 7-0-0 and move to 9-4-0 overall. Dominican heads to Mequon, Wisconsin, on Saturday to battle for the top spot in the NACC with the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. between the final two unbeaten teams in the conference.
"It's going to be a fun match," said Carrillo when asked about Saturday. "We can't wait for that competition."
