The Dominican University women's volleyball team handed the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons their first loss in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action, topping the Falcons in four sets (25-23, 18-25, 25-18, 25-17) for the Stars' fifth consecutive win.
"We came out with a ton of energy and played that way the whole time," commented senior setter
Christina Wilson (Homer Glen, Ill.) following the win. "Even when we were down for a while in set two, we picked it right up in set three."
Wilson dished out 42 assists in the winning effort, leading the Stars to a .190 attack percentage, and added 14 digs for her 18
th double-double of the season.
Offensively,
Kendyl Todd (Crete, Ill.) tallied 14 kills on 23 attacks, committing just two errors to post a .522 attack percentage. The sophomore middle has now reached double-digit kills in three straight matches for the Stars, hitting an impressive .531 over the stretch.
Todd's classmate,
Alex Kisten (Huntley, Ill.) added 12 kills and hit .400 in the win while
Maddi Zanoni (Hudsonville, Mich.) knocked down nine kills and
Rosalyn Wyse (Greenville, Mich.) and
Tessa Griparis (Belleair, Fla.) collected six kills apiece as Wilson utilized all of her offensive weapons.
Defensively, the Stars' blocking was stellar, posting nine blocks for the second night in a row. Griparis, Todd and Zanoni posted four total blocks each while Wyse added a pair of block assists.
Caitlen Foote (Dexter, Mich.) led the back row effort with a match-high 19 digs as the Stars collected 75 digs to hold the Falcons to a .107 attack percentage.
The Stars are now 19-7 overall and 7-1 in the NACC, sitting in second place in the conference standings. Dominican will return to the court on Tuesday, hosting the Aurora University Spartans for a 7:00 p.m. match in the Igini Sports Forum.
