Adam Yaghmour's (Norridge, Ill.) golden goal in the 95
th minute broke a scoreless tie and sent the Dominican University men's soccer team home from Waukesha, Wisconsin, with a 1-0 win over the Carroll University Pioneers. Yaghmour collected the ball after a scramble in the box and found the back of the goal from five-yards out.
"That was a good team win," commented Dominican's
Erick Baumann, following the non-conference tilt. "The guys really competed and played hard. We got some better minutes from a number of our starters and good minutes off our bench."
Wesley Zank (Sun Prairie, Wis.) picked up the win in goal, playing the final 77 minutes after taking over for
Gabriel Gongora (Naperville, Ill.) just 17 minutes into the match. Zank made four saves to move to 1-0-0 on the season in goal.
Dominican held a 15-12 advantage in shots for the match, putting seven shots on goal to six for Carroll. The Stars also earned 11 corner kicks while surrendering just three to the Pioneers.
Dominican, now 9-3-3 on the season, returns to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play on Saturday, traveling to Madison, Wisconsin, for an 11:00 a.m. kickoff against the Edgewood College Eagles. The Stars then close out the 2015 regular season with a 3:00 p.m. match against the Benedictine University on Wednesday, October 28.
