Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Strong Second Half Powers Stars Past Eagles

After a scoreless first half, the Dominican University men's soccer team scored five goals en route to a 5-0 win over the Edgewood College Eagles on Saturday afternoon in Madison, Wisconsin.  The Stars outshot the Eagles 27-1 in posting their ninth clean sheet of the season.

"We came out with the right mindset in the second half and physical played the game the way we trained yesterday," said Erick Baumann, the Stars' head coach, following the match.  "It was nice to see our team that active in the final third today."

David Ortega (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) opened the scoring just 39 seconds into the second half, when his shot through traffic was able to beat Edgewood's Kyle Wood.  It was Ortega's first goal of the season and held up as the game-winner.

In the 62nd minute, the Stars started created some breathing room as Benjamin Ibarra (Skokie, Ill.) notched his second goal of the season.  The insurance marker seemed to open the flood gates for Dominican as three more goals followed over the next 23 minutes.

In the 72nd, Jonathan Arzeta (Des Plaines, Ill.) picked up his fourth goal of the season and Adam Yaghmour (Norridge, Ill.) followed with his fifth tally of the season in the 79thJose Becerra (Waukegan, Ill.) then capped the scoring in the 85th when his shot from 25-yards out deflected off an Edgewood defender and into the goal.

Dominican allowed just one shot to reach starting goalkeeper Wesley Zank (Sun Prairie, Wis.) as the senior picked up his first shutout of the season.

The Stars, now 10-3-3 on the season and 6-1-2 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC), close out the regular season on Wednesday when they host the Benedictine University Eagles.  Kickoff is slated for 3:00 p.m. at West Campus Field.
