The Dominican University women's volleyball team dug themselves out of a two-set hole on Friday evening, rallying for a five-set win (13-25, 27-29, 25-23, 25-13, 15-10) over the MSOE Raiders in Milwaukee. With the win the Stars move to 21-7 on the year and 9-1 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) to secure the two-seed in the upcoming NACC Tournament and earn a bye to the tournament semifinals.
"Not to take anything away from MSOE; they played some unbelievable volleyball," commented Dominican University's second-year head coach
Jeanne Czipri. "Anything that could swing their way did in those first two sets. That being said, there is no excuse for how we played in those early sets. We can't afford to go into the postseason and play two strong teams in our conference tournament like that."
Czipri continued, "
Alex [Kisten] (Huntley, Ill.) helped turn things around in the third set with ten kills. Both of our outsides finished strong. We just need to play at that level all the time."
Kisten finished with 18 kills overall while
Rosalyn Wyse (Greenville, Mich.) paced the attack with a match-high 24 kills on 64 attempts.
The Stars hit -.108, committing 13 errors, in the first set and just .091 in the second set before turning the corner with a .350 attack percentage in the third set. After hitting .286 in the fourth set, Dominican closed out the win with an even .400 attack percentage in the deciding fifth set. After committing 20 errors over the first two frames, Dominican had just 12 errors total in sets three, four and five.
Christina Wilson (Homer Glen, Ill.) doled out 56 assists and picked up 12 digs for her 20
th double-double of the season while
Caitlen Foote (Dexter, Mich.), who surpassed 1,500 career digs in the Stars' last match, logged a match-high 27 digs.
Dominican has a quick turnaround, returning home to River Forest for a match against the Alverno College Inferno on Saturday night in the Igini Sports Forum. The match is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start on the final day of NACC regular season play prior to the conference tournament which begins play on November 3.
