Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Stars Make Quick Work Of Visiting Inferno

The Dominican University women's volleyball team never trailed at any point in cruising to a three-set (25-12, 25-7, 25-7) sweep of the visiting Alverno College Inferno in just 49 minutes in the Igini Sports Forum on Saturday evening.  The win pushed the Stars to 10-1 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference and wrapped up a first round bye in the NACC Tournament the first week of November as the tournament's two-seed.

The Stars hit a season-high .452 in knocking down 33 kills on 62 attempts while committing just five errors.

Dominican's trio of seniors led the winning effort with setter Christina Wilson (Homer Glen, Ill.) dishing out 25 assists while Caitlen Foote (Dexter, Mich.) collected a match-high eight kills on just ten swings and Olivia Szuszkiewicz (Barrington, Ill.) posted a match-high eight digs.

"I was happy to see us bounce back after last night's performance," said Jeanne Czipri following the match.  The Stars' second-year head coach continued, "We cleaned some things up but still have a lot of work to do before next weekend and the NACC Tournament.  With that said, I'm proud of us for finishing second in the conference and securing the first round bye in the NACC Tournament.  I am anxious to get back to work next week."

As a team, Dominican racked up 12 service aces, three apiece for Wilson and Rosalyn Wyse (Greenville, Mich.) while Tessa Griparis (Belleair, Fla.), Alissa Vance (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Foote tallied two each.

Defensively, the Stars held the Inferno to a -.113 attack percentage, collecting 33 digs and eight total blocks.  Freshman Erica Freudinger (Peotone, Ill.) led the charge at the net with four total blocks, two solo and two assisted, while Alex Kisten (Huntley, Ill.) and Griparis had three total blocks apiece.

The Stars, now 22-7 overall, will tune-up for the NACC Tournament with a trio of matches next weekend.  On Friday, Dominican will take on #15 Elmhurst College and Illinois Tech at the Benedictine University Eagle Invite.  The Stars will then head to Whitewater, Wisconsin, on Saturday to battle the ninth-ranked UW-Whitewater Warhawks.
