Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Stars Remain Perfect In NACC Action

The Dominican University women's soccer team remained perfect in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action with a 2-0 win over the Marian University Sabres at West Campus Field on Saturday.

Dominican got a first half strike from Lauren Zuro (Elmwood Park, Ill.) and a second half tally from Kelli Iovino (Arlington Heights, Ill.) while freshman goalkeeper Pamela Ruiz (Dallas, Texas) needed to make just one save while facing six shots to pick up her second shutout of the season.

"Overall I thought we managed the game well," said head coach Carlos Carrillo after his side posted their sixth win in the last eight contests.  "We moved the ball, switched the field nicely…we tried running at them early and created some nice opportunities."

Both goals for had some nice build up for Dominican.

Zuro's goal came in the eighth minute and started in Dominican's defensive half of the field.  Zuro checked back to receive a ball near midfield and then played a ball into Taylor Adler (Shorewood, Ill.) in the midfield.  Adler carried before sliding a pass to Iovino.  The rush was stopped momentarily when a Marian defender pushed the ball out wide but Tania Paez (Chicago, Ill.) collected and carried endline before serving a ball towards the back post for Zuro.  Zuro then drove a header into the far post for her third goal of the season.

The score remained 1-0 into the 64th minute when Alexis Mondragon (Chicago, Ill.) won a 50-50 ball out near midfield, poking pass for Alder that sprung the Stars' midfielder towards the corner.  Adler carried to the edge of the 18-yard box before driving service into the six-yard box where Iovino was able to drive a header into the Marian goal.

The Stars outshot the Sabres 12-6 while Marian held a slight, 5-4, advantage in corner kick opportunities.

Dominican returns to the West Campus pitch on Wednesday, hosting the Alverno College Inferno for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
