Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Stars Downed By Falcons

The Dominican University men's basketball team fell to the visiting Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons 83-69 on Saturday afternoon to fall to 0-4 on the season and 0-3 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC).

The Falcons opened the game on a 11-1 run as the Stars began the game going 0-for-10 from the field over the first six minutes of the game before Rich Bodee (Darien, Ill.) knocked down a three with 13:49 to go in the first half.

Dominican continued to eat into the Falcons' lead over the next five minutes, pulling within one at 19-18 on a layup by Quinn Pokora with under nine minutes to play in the half before Concordia Wisconsin used a quick 8-0 run to extend the lead back to nine at 27-18.

Concordia Wisconsin carried a 36-29 lead at the break and the Stars continued to keep it close through the first ten minutes of the second half until the Falcons 9-0 run midway through the half to open a 71-55 lead and never looked back.

Eric Kittel and Keith Kahlfeldt led five players in double-figures for the Falcons with 17 points apiece while Dominican's Josh Mayberry (Canton, Mich.) scored a game-high 20 points on 8-for-18 shooting including going 3-for-4 from three.  Tim Robertson (Chicago, Ill.) and Quinn Pokora (Mundelein, Ill.) added 14 points apiece for the Stars while Bodee chipped in 12 in the loss.

As a team, the Stars recovered from the slow start to shoot over 42-percent from the field, 28-for-66 and connected on eight of 24 attempts from three-point distance.  The Falcons shot better than 52-percent (31-for-59) from the field and 42-percent (8-for-19) from three.

"CUW is a good team," said head coach Mark White.  "They have almost everyone back from the team that made it to the national tournament last year so we had our work cut out for us competing against them twice in our first four games.  We started slowly against them which hurt us and we were not able to stop them from going on lengthy runs. You just cannot allow that to hapen when you are playing a team like that."

The Stars return to action on Wednesday, hosting the Edgewood College Eagles for a 7:00 p.m. game in the Igini Sports Forum.
