The Dominican University men's volleyball cruised to a three-set (25-12, 25-16, 25-9) victory over the visiting Loras College Duhawks in the Stars' final home match of the 2015 season. With the win, the 15
th-ranked Stars improve to 14-10 on the season and 9-4 in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) to secure a spot in the inaugural MCVL Tournament.
Throughout the three sets, Dominican trailed just once as Loras scored the first point of the third set to take a 1-0 lead. Dominican rallied to score the next three points and never trailed again.
The Dominican offense, ran by second-year setter
Alex Coyne (Naperville, Ill.), hit an impressive .507 in the win, knocking down 40 kills on 67 swings while committing just six errors. Coyne dished out 30 assists to nine different hitters paced by
Jeremy Royko (Naperville, Ill.) who finished the win with a match-high ten kills. Freshman outside
Luke Spicer (St. Charles, Ill.) added seven kills while Dominican's middles,
Mason Solbrig (Lindenhurst, Ill.) and
Aidan Spangler (Western Springs, Ill.), collected five kills apiece.
Defensively, the Stars held the Duhakws to a .000 attack percentage, forcing 25 hitting errors with ten blocks. Solbrig led the barrage at the net, collecting seven block assists while Royko was in on five total blocks.
The Stars close out the regular season with the Lakeland College Muskies in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, on Wednesday.
