The Dominican University baseball team dropped two games to the Rockford University Regents on the road at Aviators Stadium in Loves Park, Illinois, on Tuesday evening.
With the losses, the Stars move to 5-10 overall record 2-2 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC). The Stars have a quick turnaround, facing the Loras College Duhawks, in a single nine inning game at Boomers Stadium on Wednesday for a 6:00 PM first pitch. The Stars will return to NACC action on Saturday, traveling to Milwaukee to take on the MSOE Raiders in a doubleheader.
Game One – Rockford 4, Dominican 0 Scoreless into the fourth, Dominican put runners on second and third with one out, but Rockford escaped unscathed as
Joe Lyons (Chicago Ridge, III.) popped out to second before
Nathaniel Natividad (Oak Lawn, III.) flew out to center to end the inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Rockford capitalized on a Dominican throwing error and a wild pitch to score the first run of the game.
Rockford would then tack on two more runs an inning later to make it 3-0 through five innings.
In the bottom of the sixth, Rockford would put the final run of the ballgame on the board when Bobby Barerra roped a one-out double. Barerra then stole third and came across when
Cody Schuster's (Las Vegas, Nev.) throw ended up in left field.
In total, Dominican managed seven hits but stranded 11 runners, including leaving runners in scoring position in five different innings. Senior
Tim Varallo (Chicago, III.) picked up three hits, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double.
Daniel Supple (Albany, Calif.) took the loss, in a complete-game effort. The sophomore scattered nine hits and three walks over eight innings, surrendering four runs, two earned.
Game Two – Rockford 13, Dominican 0 In the nightcap, Dominican managed just four hits while Rockford pounded out 17 hits against three different Stars' pitchers.
Colin Janison (Las Vegas, Nev.) took the loss, falling to 1-2 on the season. Janison surrendered seven runs on 11 hits over three innings. The freshman walked none and struck out seven.
