The Dominican University baseball team snapped a ten-game losing streak on Friday evening, shutting out the Maranatha Baptist University Sabrecats, 5-0.
J.T. Hicks (Albion, Mich.) picked up two hits and drove in two runs in the win while
Royce Salay (Henderson, Nev.) picked up the win, tossing six shutout innings in his first collegiate appearance on the mound.
The Stars offense staked Salay to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, collecting three runs on an infield single and three hit batters.  Three of the first four hitters of the inning were hit by pitch with
Nathaniel Natividad (Oak Lawn, III.) coming across when
Richie Green (Chicago, III.) was plunked for the seventh time this season.  After
Tim Varallo (Chicago, III.) bounced into a double play, scoring
Cody Schuster (Las Vegas, Nev.), Hicks picked up his first hit of the game, plating
Colin Janison (Las Vegas, Nev.) in the process.
After Janison led off the bottom of the third with a double to left, the freshman came around to score when Varallo singled to center to make it 4-0 after three innings.
Hicks picked up his second RBI of the game in the bottom of the seventh.  Green led off the frame with a double to left.  A hitter later, Green scored when Hicks looped a single to right center.
Salay scattered two hits and four walks while punching out six in his first start.  The sophomore right hander then gave the ball to the Stars' bullpen for the final nine outs.  Lefty
Colton Malich (Las Vegas, Nev.) tossed a one-two-three ninth, using just ten pitches to finish off the victory.
Offensively, the Stars collected just six hits but worked five walks and were hit by pitch five times.
The Stars will enjoy an off day on Saturday before returning to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action on Sunday, heading to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, for a doubleheader with the Marian University Sabres.  First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
