The Dominican University women's volleyball team extended their winning streak to seven matches, picking up a pair of wins at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Saturday afternoon, topping the #21 UW-Oshkosh Titans and UW-River Falls Falcons, taking bot matches in four sets to move to 7-1 on the season.
Â
Alex Kisten (Huntley, Ill.) was named to the UWO Pizza Hut Classic All-Tournament Team, picking up 32 kills on the day to pace the Stars' offensive attack, including a career-high 22 kills against the host Titans.
Â
"Alex had a particularly strong day, scoring with different shots and sets," said
Jeanne Czipri, the Stars' second-year head coach. "She is really starting to find her groove, which is exciting to see. She and
Carri [Chambers]Â (Winnebago, Ill.), have started to play off one another and if they both continue to click, will be very tough for teams to stop going forward."
Â
Chambers added 26 kills, hitting .323 for the day with just three errors on 71 total attempts while
Christina Wilson (Homer Glen, Ill.) averaged better than 12 assists per set, dishing out 103 assists, including a season-high 60 against the Titans, to lead the Stars' offense to a .265 hitting percentage. In total, seven different attackers picked up kills for the Stars as Wilson spread the ball around.
Â
Maddi Zanoni (Hudsonville, Mich.) and
Kendyl Todd (Crete, Ill.) each had a double-digit kill effort for the day, with Zanoni posting 11 kills against River Falls and Todd picking up ten kills against UW-Oshkosh.
Â
Defensively, the Stars back row posted 82 and 61 digs respectively against Oshkosh and River Falls, holding their opponents to a combined attack percentage of .188 while forcing 34 errors.Â
Olivia Szuszkiewicz (Barrington, Ill.) and
Caitlen Foote (Dexter, Mich.) led the effort, picking up 36 and 25 digs respectively. Chambers and Foote collected 22 digs apiece in the win over the Titans while Szuszkiewicz posted 19 digs to lead the Stars against the Falcons.
Â
"We are continuing to grow as a team and winning some matches against very good opponents while doing so," remarked Czipri. "We have good depth that we are working into matches and to the girls' credit, they are working through adjusting to the different lineups we are putting out on the court."
Â
The win over Oshkosh marked the Stars' second consecutive win over an AVCA Top 25 opponent after Dominican topped the Augsburg College Auggies, then ranked 20
th, to close out the Northwestern (Minn.) Labor Day Tournament last weekend before heading to Oshkosh on Saturday.
Â
Dominican opens Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action on Tuesday, traveling to Rockford, Illinois, to take on the Rockford University Regents. The Stars were picked to repeat as NACC champions back in August in the conference's preseason coaches' and SIDs' poll, claiming all but five of the 22 first-place votes.
