The Dominican University women's volleyball team, tabbed to win the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) title in the conference's preseason coaches' and SIDs' poll, opened conference action on Tuesday night, sweeping the Rockford University Regents in three sets, 25-9, 25-15, 25-18.
Â
"Coming off such a great stretch of volleyball, I was disappointed in our level of play as well as our effort tonight," remarked
Jeanne Czipri, the Stars' head coach in her second season. "While we were able to get through the match tonight and push our win streak to eight matches, we will need to be much better in the coming days and weeks if we want to compete with the level of teams we have coming up on our schedule."
Â
Dominican hit .375 in the match, paced by
Carri Chambers (Winnebago, Ill.) who knocked down a match-high 12 kills and freshman
Erica Freudinger (Peotone, Ill.) who was a perfect 9-for-9 while playing in two of the three sets.Â
Alex Kisten (Huntley, Ill.), the NACC
Player of the Week, continued her hot stretch with eight kills on 21 attempts with just three errors.
Â
Defensively, the Stars tallied just three total blocks but collected 45 digs, paced by
Caitlen Foote's (Dexter, Mich.)Â match-high 12 digs, to force the Regents into 15 attack errors and a .070 hitting percentage.
Â
The Stars, now 8-1 on the season, travel to Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Friday where they will take on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds, #5 UW-Stevens Point Pointers and #8 Carthage College Lady Reds on Friday and Saturday at the Carthage Women's Volleyball Invitational.
