The Dominican University women's tennis team fell to the Elmhurst College Bluejays 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon in Elmhurst. The loss drops the Stars to 1-5 on the season with the Stars returning to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play on Friday, traveling to Milwaukee to take on the Mount Mary University Blue Angels, a NACC associate member in women's tennis and women's cross country.
Dominican's
Morganne Schmidt (West Dundee, Ill.) fought furiously, trying to earn a point for the Stars in singles action. After dropping the first set at number three singles, 6-1, Schmidt rallied from a 5-1 deficit to knot the second set, 5-5 before running out of steam and falling 7-5.
"We have a lot of spirit," said Bob Almada, Dominican's first-year head coach. "Morganne refused to give up and that is an attitude that our whole team embodies."
