The Dominican University women's volleyball team saw their eight-match winning streak snapped on Friday evening, falling to the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds in three sets (25-17, 25-21, 25-21) to open play at the Carthage College Invitational in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Â
The Stars hit a season-low .141 in the losing effort, collecting 44 kills on 142 total attacks while committing 24 errors.
Â
"Our hitters and blockers did not do what we need to do to win that match," said
Jeanne Czipri, the Stars' head coach in reaction to the loss. "We didn't serve any near as aggressively as we should have. I hope we can learn from this, take it as gut check and be better tomorrow. We have to be better to beat these better teams."
Â
Tessa Griparis (Belleair, Fla.) and
Alex Kisten (Huntley, Ill.) shared team-high honors with eight kills apiece in the losing effort for Dominican while
Carri Chambers (Winnebago, Ill.) added seven kills and
Christina Wilson (Homer Glen, Ill.) dished out 36 assists.Â
Â
Defensively,
Caitlen Foote (Dexter, Mich.) collected a match-high 21 digs while Wilson rounded out her sixth double-double effort of the season with 15 digs.
Â
Dominican will look to bounce back and start a new streak on Saturday, returning to Kenosha to battle the fifth-ranked UW-Stevens Point Pointers and eighth-ranked Carthage College Lady Reds. Play resumes at the Carthage Invitational at 10:00 a.m.
