The Dominican University women's soccer team hit the road on Wednesday night, falling to the #24 University of Dubuque Spartans 2-0 in non-conference action.
Â
"It was a hard fought match," said Dominican's head coach
Carlos Carrillo. "Unfortunately we didn't capitalize on the couple of opportunities that we had but I was proud to see us battle in such a physical game. The difference tonight was they had two good shots from distance that ended up in the back of our net."
Â
Freshman goalkeeper
Pamela Ruiz (Dallas, Texas) logged five saves on the night, keeping the match scoreless into the 81
st minute until the Spartans' Katie Lynn netted her sixth goal of the season.Â
Â
Six minutes later, with Dominican pushed forward looking for the equalizer, Dubuque was able to net an insurance marker when Lynn left a touch pass along the top of the 18-yard box for Kyleigh McLaughlin who beat Ruiz for her fourth goal of the season.
Â
Dubuque held a 15-10 advantage in shots, putting seven on frame while Dominican managed to put four on goal. Corner kick opportunities were even at three apiece.
Â
The loss drops the Stars to 3-3-0 on the season and snaps a three-match winning streak. Dominican will return to the familiar West Campus turf on Saturday, hosting the Lakeland College Muskies for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play.
