The Dominican University men's basketball team had a potential game-tying three fall short as time expired, falling 87-84 to the visiting Marian University Sabres on Saturday afternoon in the Igini Sports Forum.

The Stars trailed by as many as nine in the final three minutes and seven in the final minute but chipped the Sabres' lead all the way down to two, 86-84, with 12 seconds to play. After Marian's Alex Manhardt split a pair of free throws the Stars had the ball with a chance to tie. After Marian knocked a Dominican pass out of bounds with 2.2 seconds to play, the Stars inbounded the ball to
Isaac Moore (Chicago, Ill.) and his contested three from the left wing hit the front of the rim as time expired.

Dominican's
Tim Robertson (Chicago, Ill.) and
Josh Mayberry (Canton, Mich.) combined to score 25 in the second half as the Stars tried to erase a 42-35 deficit.

Robertson finished with a team-high 19 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. The sophomore connected on 6-of-14 shots from the field, including going 2-for-3 from behind the three-point stripe.

Mayberry finished with 14 points, scoring 12 in the second half, while
Rich Bodee (Darien, Ill.) rounded out three in double-figures for Dominican with ten points on 4-for-7 shooting.

For the Sabres, Reggie Roemer shot 8-for-9 from the field to score a game-high 21 points while Manhardt added 20 points and pulled down ten boards.

The loss drops the Stars to 2-12 overall and 1-9 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC). Dominican returns to the court on Wednesday, hosting the fifth-ranked Benedictine University Eagles for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff in the Igini Sports Forum.
