Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Stars Hang On At Edgewood

The Dominican University men's basketball team, behind a career game from freshman Antonio Amoah (Chicago, Ill.), topped the Edgewood College Eagles 75-68 in Madison, Wisconsin, on Saturday afternoon.  Amoah dropped in a game-high 26 points on 10-for-16 shooting and pulled down 13 rebounds for his first career double-double.

"This was a good road win for the team," said Mark White following the game.  "At times we struggled on the offensive end of the foor but the guys were resilient and had a great defensive effort."

The Stars led by as many as 19 mid-way through the first half before Edgewood used a 10-2 run to pull within 11, 65-54, with 7:19 to play.  Edgewood continued to chip away, eventually pulling within five, 71-66, with a little over a minute to go.

The Stars were able to hang on in the final minute, converting on four of seven attempts from the foul line down the stretch and holding the Eagles to just one field goal in the final three minutes.

For Amoah, it was just his second double-digit scoring effort of the season after scoring 11 points last time out for the Stars.  The freshman had been averaging just 2.9 points per game entering the week.

"Antonio had a great game off the bench," commented White when asked about his freshman.

Dominican's Josh Mayberry (Canton, Mich.) added 17 points, converting on eight of his 14 attempts from the foul line, and grabbed 12 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.

The Stars won the battle on the glass, out-rebounding the Eagles 48-39 while grabbing 11 offensive rebounds that led to 15 second-chance points for Dominican.

For the Eagles, Adam Freitag scored a team-high 19 points despite connecting on just three of his ten attempts from three-point range.

With the win, Dominican improves to 3-13 on the season and 2-10 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC).  The Stars return home to the Igini Sports Forum on Tuesday, hosting the Maranatha Baptist University Sabres for a non-conference tilt.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
