Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stars Run Win Streak To Ten Games

The Dominican University men's soccer team pushed their winning streak to ten games with a 2-1 win over the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action on Saturday afternoon at West Campus Field.

"I thought we played extremely well in the first half," commented Erick Baumann, the Stars' head coach in his 23rd season.  "Our pressure was effective and it turned into some opportunities but in the second half we didn't manage the game well.  We became undisciplined and committed fouls and let them back into the match."

Dominican opened the scoring in the 18th minute when freshman Isaac Perez created his own opportunity when he cut one defender before splitting another two at the top of the box and then poked a rolling ball inside the far post, beating the Falcons' Killian Mielotz.  The score was the fourth of the year for Perez who picked up an assist later in the match and now has a total of 14 points on the season.

After the Stars dominated play in the first half, tallying seven shots with three on goal while giving up just two shots to the Falcons, things evened out in the second half as the score remained 1-0 into the 60th minute.

In the 60th minute, Perez got endline and served a ball to the back post where Zack Venzon settled before beating Nate Yeager for his first goal of the season.  Venzon's tally proved to be the game-winner as Concordia Wisconsin found the back of the goal in the 78th minute when a Falcons' corner bounced in the box before Justin Clayton knocked it in to breakup Dominican's shutout bid.

The Stars held a slight advantage in shots 11-8 but held a 10-5 advantage in corner kick opportunities.  The match was very physical with 39 fouls called, 23 whistled against the Falcons and 16 against Dominican, and four cautions issued.

For the Stars, Gabriel Gongora picked up the win in goal, logging two saves to move to 9-2-2 on the year in goal with a 0.60 goals against average.

With the win, Dominican improves to 10-2-2 on the year and 8-0-0 in league play.  The Stars take a break from the NACC on Tuesday, hosting the Lake Forest College Foresters for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference match at West Campus Field.  The Stars then return to NACC action on Saturday, hosting the Edgewood College Eagles before closing out the 2016 regular season at Benedictine University on October 26.
