The Dominican University women's soccer team scored a 1-0 shutout victory over the Benedictine University Eagles at West Campus Field on Wednesday afternoon to secure the third-seed in the upcoming Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament.

"I was very proud of our team," said Dominican's
Carlos Carrillo. "I thought we came out with intensity and were able to grind out a win through the conditions created by the heavy rainfall. Despite the elements, we were able to get a good result and secure a first round game at home in the conference tournament."

The game's lone score came in the 39
th minute when Tania Paez gathered a rebound of her own shot, knocking the ball into the back of the goal for her fourth goal of the season.

The stat sheet reflected how tight the match was with Dominican holding a slight 12-10 advantage in shots, putting six shots on goal as compared to three for the Eagles.

Vanessa Gonzalez logged three saves in logging her third shutout of the season. Gonzalez is now 6-3-0 in her nine starts in goal.

With the win, the Stars improve to 12-5-0 on the season and close out league play at 7-3-0, good for third place in the regular season standings. On Saturday, Dominican will host a NACC Tournament quarterfinal match with the Eagles. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
