The Dominican University women's volleyball team, the number three seed in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament, advanced to the tournament semifinals with a 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 24-26, 25-22) win over the Benedictine University Eagles.
Â
"I am really pleased with a lot of things that the team did tonight," said third-year head coach
Jeanne Czipri following her team's first round win in the NACC Tournament. "We served aggressively, and while we made some untimely errors, it still put us in good situations defensively. Offensively, it took us a while to get going but finished with three hitters in double-figures with a fourth at nine and that is a big positive for us. With that said, I was most impressed with our defensive effort. We kept a lot of balls alive with our first and second touches which kept our energy high."
Â
The Stars hit .209 in the winning effort with senior
Rosalyn Wyse terminating a match-high 16 rallies. Freshman
Stephanie Cole added 13 kills while middles
Kendyl Todd and
Tessa Griparis finished with ten and nine kills respectively. Sophomore setter
Jackie Mursuli collected a career-high 48 assists in the winning effort.
Â
Defensively, the Stars held Benedictine to a .102 attack percentage with 63 digs and nine blocks to force 23 hitting errors. At the net, Griparis tallied five total blocks while Wyse, Todd and Dent all posted three. In the back row, senior libero
Audrey Wyse had a match-high 19 digs while freshman
Lauren LaVigne added 15.
Â
Dominican, now 12-20 on the season, will travel to Aurora University on Thursday night for a NACC Tournament semifinal match against the Spartans.
Â
"I cannot wait to have a rematch with Aurora," said Czipri. "I'm excited to see what we do on Thursday."
