Stars Fall To Titans In Season Opener

The Dominican University men's basketball team opened the 2016-2017 season on the road Tuesday night, falling to perennial Division III power the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans 86-65 at the Shirk Center in Bloomington, Illinois.
 
The Stars outshot the Titans, converting at a 39-percent clip from the field while holding the Titans to 37-percent shooting from the field, but Illinois Wesleyan cleaned up the glass, grabbing 23 offensive rebounds, leading to 27 second chance points.  Additionally, the Titans forced 13 turnovers for the Stars, leading to 15 points for Illinois Wesleyan.
 
Senior Josh Mayberry, entering his senior campaign as the tenth-leading scorer in program history, led the Stars with 14 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the field while junior Tim Robertson nailed down his first double-double of the season with 12 points and ten rebounds.
 
For the Titans, junior Brady Rose led four in double-figures with a game-high 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field.
 
Dominican returns to River Forest for the 2016-2017 home opener on Thursday night against the Eureka College Red Devils.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Igini Sports Forum.
