The Dominican University women's basketball team returned to the hardwood after a ten-day break from action, falling to the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons, 53-29, in the Stars' Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) opener.
Â
"Today was by far our best defensive effort," commented head coach
Gabby Johnson following the loss. "Our goal all week was to get back to the basics defensively. The next part of the puzzle is to put offense and defense together."
Â
The Stars held the Falcons to just 30-percent shooting (18-for-60) from the field and forced 17 turnovers, but struggled themselves offensively, connecting on just 11 of 45 attempts from the field and turning the ball over 32 times.
Â
Freshman
Lexi Hoskins scored a team-high ten points in 25 minutes in her first start of the season. Classmate
Timiya Ray nine points but the rest of the Stars combined to score just ten points.
Â
For the Falcons, Taylor DeLong led the way with 14 points on 6-for-7 shooting in 14 minutes off the bench.
Â
"CUW is a well-coached team," added Johnson, " and being able to sit down and guard with them is a great step forward for our young team."
Â
Dominican, now 1-4 on the season, will play their fifth straight game on the road on Tuesday, traveling to Milwaukee to take on the Alverno College Inferno. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
