Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Stars Win Third Straight, Top Wittenberg

The Dominican University men's volleyball team picked up their third straight victory on Friday evening, topping the Wittenberg University Tigers in four sets (25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 25-18) on the road in Springfield, Ohio.  With the win, the Stars, ranked 11th in this week's AVCA Division III Men's Coaches Top 15 Poll, move to 6-2 on the season and 2-1 in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL).

"The boys passed well today," said Dan Ames, the Stars' head coach, following the victory. "We weren't very smooth offensively, but our passing kept us in the game along with getting some quality touches on our block. If we want to win tomorrow, we have to step up our game and play more cohesively as a team."

Sophomore Luke Spicer (St. Charles, Ill.) led the Stars' offensive attack, knocking down a match-high 15 kills on 30 swings while committing just three errors to hit .400 in the winning effort.  Teammate Jeremy Royko (Naperville, Ill.) added 11 kills while Zach Sinn (Winfield, Ill.), the reigning MCVL Offensive Player of the Week, tallied eight kills.  Alex Coyne (Naperville, Ill.) ran the Stars' offense to a .199 attack percentage, doling out 33 assists.

Defensively, Brooks Nevrly (Downers Grove, Ill.), the program's all-time leader in digs and digs per set, collected a match-high 14 digs while Royko posted 11 digs for his first double-double of the season and fifth of his career.

For the Tigers, Matt Briskey paced the offense with 12 kills while Justin Luby posted a team-high 13 digs.

Dominican will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, taking on the Mount St. Joseph Lions, ranked 12th in the latest AVCA Top 15 poll, in Cincinnati, Ohio at 2:00 p.m. ET.
