Stars Win Third Straight

The Dominican University baseball team picked up their third consecutive win, improving to 4-4 on the season, topping the Bluffton University Beavers 10-2 at Terry Park in Fort Myers, Florida, on Thursday afternoon.  Dominican's Daniel Supple (Albany, Calif.) tossed innings, surrendering just two runs to pick up the win while Robert Bavone (Bellwood, Ill) allowed just one hit over the final three innings to pick up his first save of the season.

In the second, the Stars took a 3-0 lead when Colin Janison (Las Vegas, Nev.) singled to left-center with the bases loaded to score a pair of runs.  Earlier in the frame, KJ Wilk (Shelby Township, Mich.) knocked in a run with an infield single with the bases loaded.

The Stars added a run in the bottom of the third when Royce Salay (Henderson, Nev.) flew out to left, scoring Lucas McKinney (Arvada, Colo.) who had walked to spark a one-out rally that included base hits by Mike Piotrowski (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and JT Hicks (Albion, Mich.).

The Beavers cut the lead in half in the top of the sixth as Clayton Siders homered with one out before Austin Prosser singled with runners at second and third to cut the Stars lead to 4-2.

Dominican answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.  Hicks singled to plate Nathaniel Natividad (Oak Lawn, Ill.) who started the inning, reaching on a hit by pitch.  McKinney then scored when Salay bounced out to short with the bases loaded.

After a scoreless seventh, Bavone worked around a leadoff single in the eighth and let the Dominican bats get back to work.  Cody Schuster (Las Vegas, Nev.) started the bottom of the eighth with a double to deep center and then moved to third when Piotrowski doubled to right field.  After Hicks walked, Salay lined a double down the right field line, plating Schuster and Piotrowski.  Quinlan Milne Rojek (Minneapolis, Minn.) followed with a sac fly to score Hicks and Wilk capped the day's scoring with a single to score Salay.

Bavone came out and worked a one, two, three ninth to nail down the save.

Dominican tallied 14 hits on the day led by Piotrowski and Hicks.  Piotrowski logged a 4-for-4 day with a double and a walk while Hicks collected three singles.  Salay finished with two hits, driving in four runs.

The Stars will look to keep rolling on Friday, taking on the Newbury College Nighthawks in a doubleheader at the Player Development Complex in Fort Myers. First pitch is scheduled for 9:00 a.m.
