Stars Top Hiram To Snap Skid

The Dominican University baseball team snapped a three-game losing skid with an 11-6 win over the Hiram College Terriers on Monday morning in Fort Myers.  Dominican wrapped out 11 hits and took advantage of ten Hiram errors to move to 2-4 on the season.

Tyler Brown (Bartlett, Ill.) picked up the win on the mound for the Stars, improving to 1-0 on the season, with seven strong innings. The sophomore right-hander scattered seven hits and one walk, allowing two runs while striking out four.

Offensively, Cody Schuster (Las Vegas, Nev.), Lucas McKinney (Arvada, Colo.), Mike Piotrowski (Arlington Heights, Ill.), JT Hicks (Albion, Mich.) and Brian Costello (Norridge, Ill.) all went 2-for-5 at the plate with Costello driving in three runs and Hicks plating two.

Leading 3-2 after five innings, Dominican plated four runs in the sixth to break the game open.  The Stars needed just one hit in the inning as Hiram committed a pair of errors and hit three hitters and walked another.

A pair of Dominican errors in the eighth let Hiram back in the game, 7-5, but the Stars then put the game away with four more runs in the top of the ninth.  Hiram committed three more errors in the inning along with singles from McKinney, Hicks and Quinlan Milne Rojek (Minneapolis, Minn.).

The Stars will look to ride the momentum from Monday's win into a 3:00 p.m. ET game against Thiel College on Tuesday afternoon.
