The Dominican University women's volleyball team returned to tournament play on Friday, taking on the Carroll University Pioneers and Carthage College Lady Reds at the Carthage College Invitational in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The Stars topped the Pioneers in four sets (26-24, 26-24, 24-26, 25-22) before being upended by the host Lady Reds in three sets (25-20, 25-19, 30-28).
The Stars hit .146 in the win over Carroll, with
Kendyl Todd and
Rosalyn Wyse sharing team-high honors with 11 kills apiece while
Becky Dent added six kills. Dominican, coming off one of their top serving performances of the season on Tuesday night, continued to serve aggressively, serving up 11 aces, led by Wyse's four and
Morgan Wallin's three.
Defensively,
Audrey Wyse and
Megan Parker collected double-digit digs with 19 and 13 respectively while
Tessa Griparis posted three total blocks.
In the nightcap, the Stars managed to hit just .055 in the loss to Carthage. After three kills to nine errors in the first set, the Stars settled in but could not power past the host Lady Reds. Freshman
Stephanie Cole paced the attack with eight kills while Todd posted four total blocks in the losing effort.
The Stars, now 2-7 on the season, continue their trek north on Saturday, heading to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where they will face the #10 UW-Stevens Point Pointers and Gustavus Adolphus College Gusties.
