On Friday evening in Waverly, Iowa, the Dominican University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to open the IIAC-NACC Crossover, falling to the top two teams in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Stars opened the crossover with a three-set (25-18, 25-19, 25-14) loss to the host Wartburg College Knights before falling to the Loras College Duhawks in four sets (27-25, 18-25, 25-21, 25-20).
"This group is continuing to learn lessons, work through adversity and trying to find a way to win," remarked
Jeanne Czipri, the Stars' head coach. "We are a COMPLETELY different team physically, mentally and emotionally than we were in week one, but are still not where we want to be—need to be."
"We are focusing on the process and getting better every day. We are working through each match, set, point. We must continue to work on eliminating some mental errors and cleaning things up."
In the loss to the Knights, Dominican committed 19 attack errors, including seven blocks by the Knights, and managed just a .070 attack percentage. Across the net, the Knights hit at a .234 clip, including a match-high 11 kills by Aryn Jones.
For the Stars,
Alex Kisten knocked down a team-high eight kills while
Rosalyn Wyse totaled ten digs.
When the Stars returned to the court for the match against Loras, the offense continued to struggle, hitting .077 with 34 errors throughout the four-set affair. Wyse carried the heavy hand for Dominican, knocking down a team-high 14 kills while collecting 18 digs to post her first double-double of the season.
The Stars will return to the courts in Waverly on Saturday, taking on the Coe College Kohawks at 10:00 a.m. before closing out the crossover with the Buena Vista College Beavers at 2:00 p.m.
