The Dominican University men's volleyball team proved to be too much for the St. Xavier University Cougars on Tuesday night, rolling over the Cougars in three sets (25-22, 25-13, 25-17) behind 12 kills from junior
Luke Spicer and 11 kills from freshman
Ethan Klosak.
Â
"We started slow but played much better as the match went along," commented Dan Ames, the Stars' head coach, following the win. "I told the guys, this is a long race; not a sprint. We need to continue working hard in the gym and focus on getting better every time the opportunity arises for them."
Â
The Stars' offense, run through senior
Alex Coyne who had 27 assists, got better as the match progressed. After hitting just .107 with seven errors in the first set, Dominican hit .276 in the second set before hitting .419 in the clinching third set.
Â
In total, seven attackers combined to tally 41 total kills for the Stars. After Spicer's 12 and Klosak's 11,
Michal Kawa collected eight kills on just 16 swings to hit .375.
