The Dominican University women's volleyball team shook off a Friday night loss, sweeping through the MSOE Raiders (25-22, 25-19, 25-22) on Saturday night to move to 12-10 overall and 5-3 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC).
The Stars overcame a .119 attack percentage in the win, going 38-for-65 on sideouts to limit any runs by the Raiders.
In the opening set, Dominican trailed 17-12 before going on a 6-0 run to climb back in front.
Elin Ream sparked the rally with one of her five first-set kills while
Kendyl Todd capped the spurt with a kill of her own. After the sides traded sideouts up to 21-21, Dominican scored three straight with kills by Ream and
Gillian Jones along with a Raider error to set up set point. After an MSOE sideout,
Stephanie Cole put the set away with her second kill of the frame.
Ream opened the second set with a kill and the Stars never looked back, leading from start to finish. The Stars scored 10 of the first 12 points of the set and held off the Raiders.
The third set was tight with neither team leading by more than three points throughout the set. With the score tied 22-22 late in the set, Cole knocked down a kill before back-to-back errors by the Raiders, including a Cole and Ream block, closed out the night.
Ream led the way for the Stars with ten kills on 17 swings, hitting .588 for the night. The sophomore had five kills in the opening set and four in the clinching set. The rest of the Dominican lineup finished with 23 kills to 20 errors on 92 attempts.
Anastasia Labadessa dished out 25 assists in the winning effort.
Defensively, Dominican posted seven total blocks, including four apiece for Ream and Cole, holding the Raiders to just a .045 attack percentage. Libero
Megan Parker led the back row with 13 digs while
Lauren LaVigne and
Mallory Jones finished with nine digs apiece.
For the Raiders, Hannah Pekarek led the way with seven kills and 13 digs.
The match closed out the Stars' regular season home slate, with Dominican hitting the road for the final two weeks of the regular season, including a non-conference tilt at North Park University on Wednesday night. The match is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
