Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Williams Nets Hat Trick As Stars Top Eagles

The Dominican University women's soccer team remained unbeaten on the season, improving to 13-0-3 overall and 6-0-2 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) with a 3-0 win over the Edgewood College Eagles at West Campus Field.  For the Stars, sophomore Josseline Williams netted the hat trick, her fourth of the season, including netting her seventh game-winner of the year.

"It was important that we got off to a fast start," commented Carlos Carrillo, the Stars' head women's soccer coach, "and we did just that.  While the rest of the first half we didn't play as well as we wanted, we turned it around in the second half and put the game away.  I was proud of the team and how we executed what we needed to do to get the win."

In the first minute of play, Dominican's Lexi Kiotis won the Stars' a corner that turned into the game-winner.  Freshman Samantha Hatfield's service found Williams at the top of the six-yard box and the Stars' forward finished to the near post, just beating Edgewood's Grace Wildeboer who got a hand on the shot but it just got over the goal line.

Throughout the remainder of the opening half the teams traded possession in the midfield with the teams combining for just five shots.

In the second half, Dominican turned up the pressure, getting forward with Williams finishing off a pair of breakaways.  On the first breakaway, Hatfield again connected with Williams, this time leading Williams behind the Eagles' back line.  After two touches, Williams shot low to the far post from the top of the six-yard box, beating Wildeboer.  Twenty minutes later, in the 77th minute, Leah Kostos won a ball at in the Stars' defensive third before connecting with Nina Izzo in the midfield.  Izzo took a touch to turn before connecting with Williams on a run. Williams was able to ward off a defender to create a 1v1 with Wildeboer.  Williams this time placed a ball past Wildeboer who tried to cut down the angle by coming off her line.

The three scores now give Williams 26 on the season, reclaiming the national lead for the Stars' forward.

Dominican's back line was organized throughout the match, allowing just four shots to the Eagles and none on goal.  Goalkeeper Abbey Brown picked up her conference-leading tenth shutout of the season, lowering her goals against average to 0.42 in over 1,426 minutes in goal.

The Stars return to the West Campus pitch on Wednesday, hosting the Concordia University Chicago Cougars for a 3:15 p.m. kickoff.
