The Dominican University men's soccer team snapped a short two-match losing skid with a dominant 6-1 win over the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors on Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Stars overpowered the Warriors in the second half, scoring five goals, including what proved to be the game-winner by
Jonathan Arzeta in the 51
st minute.
"The wind was a big factor today and I thought we managed it well," said Erick Baumann, following his team's win, "especially in the second half when we were going with the wind. We put the game on them and finished on some opportunities. We need a quick turnaround for a very big home game on Monday."
With the score 1-1 at the half, Dominican broke the game open in the second outshooting the Warriors 17-3 and putting up four goals during an eight minute stretch before adding an insurance goal ten minutes later.
For the Stars,
Cesar Franco, Arzeta,
Isaac Perez and
Denis Soldo scored one goal apiece while
Nicolo Vitale notched a pair of goals and now has 13 goals on the season.
For the match, Dominican held a 26-7 advantage in shots, putting 14 on frame while letting just four on goal for the Warriors.
With the win, the Stars improve to 11-4-0 on the season and 7-2-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC). Dominican closes out the regular season on Monday, hosting the Edgewood College Eagles for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff at West Campus Field. With a win, the Stars will earn a first round bye in the NACC men's soccer tournament and host a semifinal match on Tuesday, October 31.
