Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Stars And Eagles Play To Draw

The Dominican University women's soccer team stayed unbeaten on the season, playing the Benedictine University Eagles to a 1-1 draw at the Stars' West Campus Field on Wednesday afternoon, pushing the Stars to 11-0-2 on the season and 4-0-1 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play.

The Stars, who controlled possession throughout most of regular time, got on the board in the 45th minute of play when the Eagles failed to clear Kaitlyn Tripp's restart service into the box.  Dominican's Josseline Williams collected the loose ball in the box before beating Benedictine's Cassidy Henson with a right-foot shot that rolled to the far post.  The tally was the 21st of the season for Williams.

The Stars carried the 1-0 lead into the second half, keeping the pressure on the visiting Eagles through the 60th minute of play.  In the 62nd minute, the Eagles' Abbie Graham flicked around a Star out near midfield before carrying into the box on the right side before sliding to get off a shot that found its way into the side netting inside the far post to even the score.

Both sides had a couple of chances through regulation, including a pair of shots by Williams in the 90th minute, but both Henson and Dominican's Abbey Brown kept the ball out of the back of the goal.

Neither side managed a shot on goal in the overtime periods, with Dominican getting of three shots through the two overtimes to Benedictine's one shot in the extra time.  The best chance for either side came in the 110th minute when Lexi Kiotis got on the end of a corner kick for Dominican, heading a ball wide of the back post.

"We weren't very sharp in the final third today," commented Carlos Carrillo, the Stars' head coach, following the loss. "We had two really good days of training, working hard on finishing but unfortunately that did not carry over into the match."

"With us not being able to finish, that puts pressure on your back line. While we did not surrender many chances to them today, they were able to capitalize on one of the few opportunities we gave up."

Dominican held a marked 21-7 advantage in shots, putting eight shots on goal to the Eagles' three.  The Stars also held a 13-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

The Stars hit the road on Saturday, traveling to Mequon, Wisconsin, for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff at Concordia University Wisconsin.
