The Dominican University came up short in its bid to win back-to-back matches, falling on Friday evening at the Vaughn Athletic Center to the Aurora University Spartans, 6-3.
"We played well in stretches but were not consistent enough to put up enough points to win the match," commented Troy Tonsil, the Stars' head coach following the match. "Despite the loss, it was great to see the number two doubles team get another conference win followed up by straight set wins at three and four singles…smart, persistent tennis from all those groups."
Anusha Mody and
Sharon Neiza picked up their second straight win in doubles play, topping the Spartans' Alex Hultine and Celia Konen by a 9-8 score, taking the tie-breaker set, 10-5.
Nieza carried the momentum into singles action, knocking off Konen, 6-3, 6-3, at number three singles while teammate
Elizabeth Cordes took the number four singles flight from Hultine, 7-6 (10-4), 6-3.
The Stars round out the 2017 fall season on Saturday, traveling to Racine, Wisconsin, to meet the Alverno College Inferno at the Racine Tennis Club. The match is slated for a 3:00 p.m. start.
