Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stars Pick Up Seventh Straight Win

The Dominican University men's soccer team continues to work its way through the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC), picking up a 3-1 win over the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons in Mequon, Wisconsin, on Saturday afternoon.  The win is the seventh straight win for the Stars who remain unbeaten in league play, improving to 6-0-0 in conference play.

"It sure wasn't pretty," commented Erick Baumann, the Stars' head coach, "but we left with a win."

The Stars got on the board first, scoring in the 19th minute of play when Nicolo Vitale headed home the rebound of his own initial shot after a flurry of activity in the Falcons' penalty box.  For Vitale, the goal was the 11th of the season for the sophomore.

The Stars carried the 1-0 lead into the second half, adding to the lead in the 49th minute when Nestor Ascencio found the back of the goal to give the Stars a 2-0 lead.

Twelve minutes later the Falcons were able to cut into the Dominican lead when a foul inside the Dominican penalty box gave Concordia Wisconsin a penalty kick.  Dagoberto Diaz went low to the right of Dominican's Brendon Martin for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The Stars later regained the two-goal advantage when Adam Yaghmour beat a couple of defenders in the box before getting off a right-footed shot that beat the Falcons' Nate Yeager for the 13th goal of the season for the senior.

The Stars, now 10-2-0 on the season, outshot the Falcons 18-13, putting seven shots on goal while allowing just three shots on frame.  Dominican also held a marked advantage in corner kicks, 11-5.

Dominican continues its road show on Wednesday, traveling to Aurora to meet the Aurora University Spartans.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. under the lights at Spartan Athletic Park.
