Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Stars Downed By Red Devils

The Dominican University men's basketball team overcame a 13-point first half deficit but were outscored 13-4 over the final 3:30 in a 72-64 loss to the Eureka College Red Devils on the road Tuesday evening.  The loss drops the Stars to 3-6 on the season with a return to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play on Saturday, December 30, at Benedictine University up next on the schedule.

"I thought we played really hard and had another good defensive effort," commented Mark White, the Stars' head coach following the game. "We held Eureka and Shea Feehan well below their season scoring averages tonight.  However, we still have not figured out how to put a team away. We have been tied or had a lead late in each of the last three games but poor shot selection, turnovers and sending our opponents to the free throw line has really hurt us. The break will be good for us to regroup."

Eureka outshot the Stars in the first half, shooting 14-for-28 from the field while Dominican managed to shoot 13-for-33.  The Red Devils also won the early battle on the glass, 20-16, while building a 33-30 lead at the break.

The Red Devils' lead grew to six early in the second half before Dominican used a 9-0 run, capped by a Tim Robertson jumper, to open a 46-43 lead with 12:36 to play.

The teams traded leads for the next seven minutes with the Stars lead growing to four points, 58-54, when Isaac Moore buried a three with a little over six minutes to play.

A Eureka three and pair of free throws pushed the Red Devils back in front, 59-58, before freshman Dennis Handy gave the Stars their final lead of the night with a lay in on Dominican's next possession before the Red Devils scored seven straight, before scoring their final 11 points at the foul line for the win.

For Dominican, Robertson finished with a team-high 27 points on 11-for-23 shooting and going 5-for-6 at the foul line.  Jonny Woolf reached double-figures for the seventh time this season, adding 11 points in 33 minutes of work.

For Eureka, Hank Thomas led the way with 27 points on 9-for-17 shooting and going a perfect 7-for-7 at the free throw line.  Eureka's Feehan, averaging 32.4 points per game on the season, was limited to 17 points on 6-for-15 shooting.
