The Dominican University baseball team picked up a much needed Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) series victory on Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader from the Rockford University Regents at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium.
Â
The Stars pounded out 28 hits, including seven extra-base hits, while Dominican pitchers limited the Regents to 14 hits on the day while striking out eight hitters.
Â
With the wins, Dominican improves to 8-16 overall and 3-7 in league play. The Stars will take a break from NACC action, meeting the Elmhurst College Bluejays on Tuesday before hosting the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders on Thursday.
Â
Game One: Dominican 11, Rockford 1
Â
Tyler Brown tossed a seven-inning complete-game to pick up his second win of the season. The junior right-hander limited the Regents to just two hits and one walk while punching out three while
Colin Janison and
KJ Wilk picked up three hits apiece for the Stars.
Â
Dominican broke the game open in the second, pushing across five runs on six hits. After
Matt Segovia led off the frame with a double,
Mike Piotrowski and
Frankie Sessa picked up RBI singles while Janison and Nate Natividad drove in runs with RBI doubles.
Â
Dominican added a run in the bottom of the third before putting the game away with four more runs over the final three innings. It was another RBI single by Sessa that pushed the Stars lead to ten in the bottom of the seventh to seal the deal.
Â
Game Two: Dominican 10, Rockford 2
Â
With the game tied 1-1 after three-and-a-half innings, the Stars broke the game open with a seven-run bottom of the fourth. The big blow in the inning was Janison's bases-loaded triple that plated
Brian Costello, Wilk and
Mike Buckley before Sessa drove in Janison with a base knock for an 8-1 lead after four.
Â
The six-run cushion was more than enough for
Daniel Supple who scattered 11 hits through 6.2 innings of work. The senior surrendered just two runs, improving to 4-1 on the season.
Â
Janison picked up another pair of hits in the nightcap, finishing the day 5-for-7 with a double, a triple and five RBIs.
