The Dominican University baseball team took to the field on Tuesday evening, falling 9-5 to the Elmhurst College Bluejays in non-conference action.

The loss drops the Stars to 8-17 on the season with a non-conference doubleheader with Maranatha Baptist University on deck for Thursday at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium.

"We got down big early and very easily could have been ten-run ruled," commented the Stars' Steve Hardman. "Our bullpen kept it close and we chipped away at the deficit but ran out of innings."

The Bluejays jumped out to an early 8-1 lead through four innings, pounding out 12 hits and capitalizing on three Dominican errors.

The Stars got one run back in the top of the fifth when
Colin Janison flew out to centerfield with
Royce Salay able to come home from third.Â
Mike Piotrowski then homered with
Matt Segovia aboard in the sixth as Dominican narrowed the gap down to 8-4.Â
Frankie Sessa added an RBI single in the seventh before Elmhurst capped the day's scoring with Travis Pickard's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.

For Dominican,
Colton Malich was charged with the loss, falling to 0-5 on the season. Malich surrendered six runs, only three of them earned, on nine hits over three innings.

For the Bluejays, Jordan Scrimpsher picked up the win, his first of the season as he allowed just two runs on two hits and six walks over the first five innings.

At the plate, Piotrowski finished 2-for-3 with a two-run home run to lead the Stars.
