The Dominican University men's volleyball team claimed the top seed in the upcoming Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) Tournament, topping the 14
th-ranked MSOE Raiders in three sets (25-18, 25-18, 25-19) to close the 2017 regular season at 24-2 overall and 18-1 in the conference.

"I'm really happy for the guys," commented Dan Ames, following the Stars' historic feat. "This is the result of four years of work, building the program from the ground up. We have now earned the right to host the conference tournament which we hope is just the beginning. Earning the top seed is important for us as a program, but we need to focus on the larger goal of winning the conference tournament."

The Stars controlled the match from the outset, never trailing in any set past the ninth point. Dominican hit .223, knocking down 45 kills, including a match-high 13 kills for junior
Luke Spicer, while holding the host Raiders for .000 attack percentage with 27 kills and 27 errors, including nine Dominican blocks.

Alex Coyne ran the Stars' offense and was credited with 23 assists. The senior also picked up ten digs for his third double-double of the season.

In addition to the team's nine total blocks, the Stars' back row logged 41 digs, 11 for freshman
Ethan Klosak and ten for libero

The Stars will host the 2017 MCVL Tournament for the first time in program history, hosting the semifinals on Friday, April 14, and the championship match on Saturday, April 15. The tournament will feature the top two teams from the MCVL Eastern Division, Dominican and Mount St. Joseph, and the top two teams from the league's Western Division, #4 Carthage College and #13 MSOE. Match times will be set on Monday.
