Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Stars Finish Furious Comeback In OT

Trailing 3-1 into the 80th minute, the Dominican University women's soccer team scored a pair of goals before regular time was up to force overtime and then finished off the furious comeback in the 93rd minute when sophomore Josseline Williams found the back of the goal for the game-winner, Williams' second goal of the match and ninth of the season.

"I am very proud of our young ladies," commented Carlos Carrillo, the Stars' head coach following the thrilling victory. "We fought through the adversity of being down two goals with less than ten minutes to play and pulled out an overtime win."

It was Williams' first strike of the match that sparked the comeback effort.  The Utah native drew the Stars within a goal less than two minutes after the Kenyon Ladies found the goal for the third time in the match, opening a 3-1 lead.  Two minutes later Alexis Hoskins collected a rebound of Tania Paez's header attempt, knocking in her first goal of the season to level the score at 3-3.

Less than three minutes into the overtime, Paez won the Stars their fifth corner of the match after earning the endline up the left flank before using a Kenyon defender to earn a restart for Dominican.  On the ensuing corner kick, freshman Samantha Hatfield served a ball for the near post where Williams was able to get a leg on the ball and knock it past Kenyon's Hannah Petrich.

"I saw us come together this weekend and get two good results against two good opponents," said Carrillo.  "I look forward to seeing us continue to get better both individually and collectively."

The Stars took an early 1-0 lead on Maggie McClure's first goal of the season in the eighth minute.  Kenyon's Samantha Hayes tallied the next three goals of the match, including putting the Ladies up 3-1 in the 78th minute on her fourth goal of the season.

Kenyon outshot the Stars 18-12 in the match, including an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal.  Dominican's Abbey Brown made five saves in picking up her fourth win in goal for the Stars.

Dominican, now 4-0-1 on the season, will open Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play on Wednesday, traveling to Rockford, Illinois, to take on the Rockford University Regents.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
