The Dominican University women's volleyball team snapped a three-match losing skid on Friday night, rallying for a four-set (17-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-17) win at Augustana College over the Vikings on Friday night in non-conference play.
"This last week was a tough one for our team," said Stars' head coach Brittany Sisk following the win. "We spent far too much time talking about what needed to be changed in order to be more successful. After starting off slow in the first set, the entire team made the choice to put action behind their words."
The Dominican defense set the tone in the win, collecting 93 digs and posting 7.5 total blocks to slow the Augustana offense to a .130 attack percentage.
Megan Parker paced the back row effort with 31 digs, a career-high for the Michigan native. Parker led five in double-figures in digs for Dominican with
Anastasia Labadessa adding 13 digs,
Mallory Jones 12 digs and
Lauren LaVigne and
Amanda Ricca posting 11 and ten digs respectively.
At the net, sophomore
Stephanie Cole tallied seven total blocks (1 BS, 6 BA) while
Alex Kisten added four block assists.
Offensively, the Stars put together their second most efficient attack of the season, posting a .205 hitting percentage with 47 kills to 17 errors on 146 total attacks. Senior
Kendyl Todd posted a match-high 16 kills, hitting .444 in the winning effort on 27 swings. Ricca rounded out her first career double-double with 12 kills, equaling her career high, while freshman
Gillian Jones added a career-high 11 kills. Labadessa ran the offense, rounding out her sixth double-double with 38 assists.
"We had some huge leaders tonight in many different categories," added Sisk. "As I tell the team all the time, those leaders couldn't accomplish what they did tonight without the backing of a strong team. They all did their jobs and then worked harder for each other tonight. I can't wait to see that same fight tomorrow night in front of our home crowd."
The win pushes the Stars to 3-6 on the season with the Lake Forest College Foresters visiting Dominican's Igini Sports Forum on Saturday evening. The match, scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start, is the nightcap to Dominican's tripleheader action as part of 2017 Homecoming Weekend.
