Box Score The Dominican University women's volleyball dropped a tough, five-set match on Saturday evening at the Igini Sports Forum, falling to the visiting Lake Forest College Foresters (18-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-11, 15-13) to move to 3-7 on the season. Freshman setter
Anastasia Labadessa logged her first career triple-double in the losing effort, collecting 11 kills, 36 assists and ten digs.
The Stars steamrolled the Foresters in the first and fourth sets, posting attack percentages of .419 in the first set and .318 in the fourth set while going 25-for-30 on sideouts. Dominican seemed to sputter in the second and third sets, committing 15 attack errors in the sets combined while letting the Foresters go on a number of runs with just a .448 sideout percentage.
Dominican then opened a 9-5 lead in the fifth set and later led 13-9 before letting the Foresters scored the final six points of the night, including a trio of Stars' attack errors.
"Volleyball is a game of errors and we made more of them than Lake Forest did tonight," commented Brittany Sisk, the Stars' first-year head coach, following the loss. "When we were making mistakes, we just could not stop the bleeding. This team is incredibly talented, but needs to make a choice that just being good enough is not
good enough anymore."
Kendyl Todd paced the Stars' offensive attack, leading three in double-digit kills with 12 kills, followed by Labadessa's 11 and
Gillian Jones added ten. Stepanie Cole added nine kills on 23 swings while
Amanda Ricca finished the night with seven kills of her own.
Defensively,
Megan Parker collected a match-high 19 digs while Cole posted six total blocks as the Stars held Lake Forest to a .188 attack percentage.
"I have to give it to those that came off the bench tonight," continued Sisk, "and to those on the floor that supported them. We stayed in the fight tonight because of them."
For Lake Forest, Grace Larson led the attack, knocking down a match-high 20 kills while setter Hannah Nauert dished out 34 assists.
The Stars will return to conference play on Wednesday, traveling to Benedictine University to take on the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. in Lisle, Illinois.
