The Dominican University women's soccer team continued their hot start to the 2017 season, opening Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play with a dominant showing in a 10-1 win at Alverno College in Milwaukee on Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore
Josseline Williams kept up her torrid pace, scoring four goals in the win for the third time this season and now has 18 goals through the Stars' first nine matches. Williams logged what eventually proved to be the game-winner in the 17
th minute after classmate
Alexis Hoskins gave the Stars a 1-0 lead in just the second minute of play.
Williams added her second goal in the 25
th minute before
Lexi Kiotis and
Alyssa Messina rounded out the opening period to give the Stars a 5-0 lead at half.
Seven minutes into the second half, Kiotis picked up her second goal of the afternoon and fifth of the season before Williams put the Stars ahead 7-0 in the 60
th minute of play.
After Alverno got on the board in the 62
nd minute, Hoskins, Williams and
Stephanie Martinez rounded out the day's scoring.
The Stars completely dominated the stat sheet, outshooting the Inferno 30-5 and putting 23 shots on frame to Alverno's two. The Stars also held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.
"We came out and scored early and often," Carlos Carrillo said following his team's eighth win of the season. "I was very proud of the way we played and controlled the match."
Dominican, now 8-0-1 on the season, travels to Marian University of Saturday, taking on the Sabres in a NACC matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
