Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stars Top Sabres In League Play

The Dominican University men's soccer improved to 2-0-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) and 6-2-0 overall on the season, scoring a 3-1 win over the Marian University Sabres in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, on Saturday afternoon.

The match was scoreless through the first 44 minutes until Dominican's Jonathan Arzeta scored an opportunistic goal when Marian's backline misplayed a ball in the 18-yard box with the ball bouncing right to the foot of Arzeta who converted for his third goal of the season.

The Stars outshot the Sabres 5-3 and held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks through the opening 45 minutes.

Dominican carried the momentum from the first half late strike into the second half, tacking on to their lead just 1:11 into the second half when Cesar Franco found the back of the goal for his first goal of the season.

In the 59th minute, Dominican's Adam Yaghmour converted on a penalty kick for an insurance tally after a Marian hand-ball in the box.  The goal was the team-leading seventh goal of the season for the Stars' senior forward.

Marian finally answered back in the 61st minute when Alonso Fragoso beat Dominican's Aaron Menyes from 25 yards out on the left side of the field.  The goal was the only score the Sabres could manage as the Stars backline refused to crack the rest of the way.

"We did a nice job capitalizing on a few opportunities today," said Erick Baumann, the Stars' head coach. "That was a very difficult game to play in but the guys overcame the challenges and got it done."

The Stars continue to make their way through the NACC schedule, returning home to River Forest, Illinois, to host the MSOE Raiders on Wednesday.  Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Dominican's West Campus Field.
