The Dominican University men's soccer team won its fourth straight, knocking off the MSOE Raiders by a final of 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon to move to 7-2-0 on the season and 3-0-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC).
Â
"I thought that was our most complete match so far this season," commented Erick Baumann, the Stars' head coach, "and I know we can be even better. We need to start getting some clean sheets and stop conceding the type of goals we have been giving up."
Â
After missing a couple of early opportunities, Dominican got on the board in the 23
rd minute when
Jonathan Arzeta heeled a pass near the corner of the penalty box for
Adam Yaghmour. Yaghmour took a touch to break through three defenders before beating the Raiders' Riley Bruce for his team-leading eighth goal of the season.
Â
The Stars carried the 1-0 lead into the half before the Raiders leveled the score when Braden Andryk collected a turnover beyond midfield before carrying all the way into the Dominican penalty box before firing a low shot that beat Dominican's Aaron Menyes for this eighth goal of the season.
Â
Dominican responded to the Raider goal just fifty seconds later when Arzeta blocked a Raiders' clearance, sending Yaghmour to the right endline. Yaghmour slotted a pass back for Arzeta who slid and got a foot on it to deflect the cross to
Isaac Perez who knocked in what proved to the game-winner.
Â
Perez added an insurance goal four minutes later when Yaghmour again connected with Perez. This time
David Ortega sent a long cross that sprung Yaghmour behind the Raiders' backline before Yaghmour slotted a pass to the center of the goal mouth that Perez finished off for his third goal of the season.
Â
"We had a bunch of guys play their best minutes of the year this afternoon," continued Baumann.
Â
The Stars outshot the Raiders, 11-6 putting four shots on goal to the Raiders two. Dominican also held a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Â
Yahgmour finished the match with a goal and an assist and now has 19 points on the season.
Â
Dominican looks to extend its winning streak on Saturday, hosting the Lakeland University Muskies for a noon kickoff at West Campus Field in NACC play. The Stars then hit the road for a tough three-game stretch starting with the Benedictine University Eagles next Wednesday.
