The Dominican University women's tennis team fell to the Knox College Prairie Fire on Wednesday night at the Forest Park Tennis Courts, 9-0.
Â
The Stars battled in doubles, with sophomores
Julia Jamka and
Gladys Bautista narrowly dropping their flight, 8-4, to Knox's Lauren Sparks and Sierra Henry.
Â
"Tough match for us today," said Troy Tonsil, head women's tennis coach. "Too many unforced errors prevented us from winning points, as well as games and ultimately sets."
Â
Sophomore
Heidi Carvajal won a few games against the Prairie Fire's number one, Bhumika Gupta, but could not sustain enough momentum to win the match. Carvajal fell in two sets, 6-4, 6-4, in the closest match of the evening.
Â
"Heidi palyed tough at one singles, but fell just short of a match win," commented Tonsil. "With the remaining conference matches, Heidi will play an important part in sparking our team. Her play will push our players to bring their best heading down the home stretch."
Â
The Stars will look to pick up a win when they host a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference dual against the Muskies of Lakeland University and the Falcons of Concordia Wisconsin in Forest Park on Saturday, September 30
th at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. respectively.
